New Orleans native Don Vappie draws audiences in with his versatile background in both traditional and folkloric jazz, along with authentic Creole music of his heritage. He is the creator of the Creole Jazz Serenaders, a classic jazz orchestra performing music from the 1920s through the 1940s, among other types of jazz and R&B combo groups, and is known for his original banjo style, though he also plays mandolin, guitar, upright bass, and is an accomplished vocalist as well.
He has produced and recorded numerous albums and film soundtracks, and is the star of the PBS documentary, "American Creole: New Orleans Reunion." In the span of his 43 year career, he has performed with renowned artists such as Peggy Lee, Joel Gray, Danny Barker, Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Eric Clapton, Cheick Hamala Diabate of Mali, Demma Dia of Senegal, Bette Midler, Diana Krall, and many more. His commitment to the cultural Creole music of his hometown has dubbed him the torchbearer of what he calls Creole Jazz.

Tonight, he presents his Creole string themed band, GrioTrio, with two other local legends, Detroit Brooks and Carl LeBlanc.
