Voice Monet, New Orleans' own vocalist and producer, curates and hosts an eclectic music showcase of both rising and veteran stars that will span jazz and worldbeat to hip-hop, soul and electronic dance music. In the tradition of the original festivals of New Orleans, "Brazland' offers an intimate, high-quality concert and afterparty just minutes from the bustle of the French Quarter, tucked into the heart of one of the city's burgeoning urban arts strips. FOOD & DRINK Meanwhile, fine purveyors of tropical cuisine and craft cocktails at L'Entrepot and its sister restaurant next door, Café Carmo, will offer a multi-cultural culinary experience, including a full menu and seated dining service until 10 p.m. Rollin' Fatties gourmet burrito mobile pop-up will serve late night eats from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Julia Street. ARTIST LINEUP: HAWTHORNE HEADHUNTERS Enigmatic electro-hip-hop-soul group the Hawthorne Headhunters make their debut New Orleans appearance as the headliners of Brazland: Bate Galeria. International musicians (by way of St Louis) Black Spade (Om Records),and soul singer/poet Coultrain (Platinum Pied Pipers)spearheaded production on their first LP, Myriad of Now, within a year on the Plug Research imprint. Jazz, electro, funk, R&B and boogie intertwine as often with the blues as with electronic dance beats to illustrate its many faces. Having been relatively quiet for the past couple years, Train and Spade have fleshed out life's tales from these past few years and collaborated with Los Angeles based artists, in addition to I, Ced, like pioneering funk vocalist Joi Gilliam, Dam-Funk, Knxwledge and KT on the Hawthorne Headhunters' highly anticipated third record, Fool's Paradise, due out later this year. www.facebook.com/HHHunters ZARDIS A native of New Orleans' historical Tremé neighborhood and trained as a classical vocalist from a young age, Zardis moved to Los Angeles as a teenager where she first performed largely as an R&B singer with the Don Johnson Orchestra and alongside artists like Solomon Burke. As one of the L.A. Amassi Center's "top ten female jazz vocalists," Zardis then travelled to Europe to perform and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands. She has also since performed as a praise and harmony vocalist with groups like Radiant Voices and Sing, Sing, Sing. Her return home to New Orleans in 2002 would find her with the Delgado Jazz Ensemble Band and serving as the vocal instructor at Delgado College. Zardis' performance at Brazland: Bate Galeria is especially exciting, as this will be her first in years. RICCARDO CRESPO Born and raised in south Brasil, Crespo began singing as a young boy with his uncle on his family farm. It was not long before he began playing guitar and composing songs. Following the Brasilian and European acclaim of his 1995 debut album, Riccardo Crespo, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival invited him to perform in 1999. He immediately fell in love with the Crescent City and made it is second home. www.RiccardoCrespo.com TONDRAE KEMP Currently splitting his time between his native New Orleans and Brooklyn, New York, Tondrae is an eclectic soul - a radiant fusion of hip-hop, blues, rock, and reggae, anchored in what he calls "The Soul Starter Kit" of Wonder, Gaye, Mayfield, Withers, and Hathaway. He has spent much of the past year performing his full-length original LP, Sun Money, released by Kwality Records in 2012. Earlier this year, Tondrae was selected by Giant Step for Red Bull's "SoundSelect Presents: New York" showcase featuring one of America's most exciting new musicians, contemporary bass virtuoso Thundercat. He has compiled a stunning local band for his performance on May 1 at Brazland: Bate Galeria. www.tondrae.com P.U.D.G.E. (DJ) Hailing from Los Angeles by way of Queens, New York is the consciously experimental producer, remixer, engineer and DJ, P.U.D.G.E. Undoubtedly one of the L.A. beat scene's active tastemakers, he has contributed original tracks and dub-heavy remixes to a bevy of progressive music compilations borne of collaborations with fellow beatmakers, DJs and MCs such as Dibia$e, Blu, Exile and BBC Radio One's Benji B and Mary Anne Hobbs, to name a few. Widely acclaimed at some of Los Angeles' most popular progressive club nights including Boombox and Low End Theory, he brings one of his infectiously danceable, round-the-world DJ sets to Jazz Fest week at Brazland: Bate Galeria, closing out the night on the dancefloor from 11:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. www.pudge222.bandcamp.com CEAUX YOUNG (Live Art) One of New Orleans' next young visual artists, Ceaux Young is multi-faceted with the paint stroke and nimble with a tattoo gun. Young will take color to canvas live throughout the Brazland musical performances on May 1, transforming a blank slate into art, breathing life into the scenery.
